The Union Roofer is a highly trained professional bringing value to the workplace and enhancing the quality of customers' projects. Roofers Local 20, covering the Greater Kansas City area and beyond, is in constant search of quality craftworkers and strives toward upgrading job standards and working conditions for the trade.
The Union shall operate to unite together all practical workers in the industry to create and maintain a more harmonious and amicable relation, with one another and for the mutual benefit of all concerned.
We are a Referral Apprenticeship Program. Everyone must be hired by one of our Signatory Contractors. A list of these Contractors can be found on our "Signatory Contractors" page through our app or website. You can also pick up a list of these Contractors at either the Union Hall or the Apprenticeship school.
If an Applicant has no prior experience in the roofing industry, they would enter as a probationary worker or a 1st year apprentice pending how they are hired by the contractor. If hired as a probationary worker you will be entered into the Apprenticeship at the request of the employer.
If an applicant has prior experience as a roofer with a qualified roofing company, they would need to bring their W-2's or 1099's to the Apprenticeship. They will be given a short interview by the Apprenticeship Coordinator to determine how knowledgeable they are in the roofing systems. The coordinator will, at that time, determine where that applicant would be placed in the apprenticeship program. The applicant will be given a list of Contractors.
Once an applicant provides a Letter of Intent to Hire from a participating contractor, they will sign the necessary paperwork and get their referral to work. They will need the following items at that time.
1. Original, legal, social security card (NO PHOTOCOPIES)
2. State issued photo id must clearly state the applicant's birth date
3. Must be 18 years of age to qualify for employment
*ROOFERS LOCAL 20 will not discriminate against apprenticeship applicants or apprentices based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), sexual orientation, genetic information, or because they are an individual with a disability or a person 40-years old or older.*
